OMORI: Explore a Strange World, Uncover a Forgotten Past
Welcome to OMORI, a surreal, story-driven psychological horror RPG. On the surface, it’s a charming adventure through a vibrant dream world filled with colorful friends and quirky foes. But just beneath this whimsical veneer lies a dark, haunting mystery.
You are Sunny, a reclusive teenage boy (a hikikomori), who escapes into “Headspace,” a dream world where you play as your alter-ego, OMORI. Here, you’ll team up with your childhood friends—Aubrey, Kel, and Hero—to explore, fight monsters, and search for your missing friend, Basil. But as you journey, the bright, colorful dream world begins to fracture, and the suppressed memories and fears of the real world start to leak in.
Two Worlds to Explore
OMORI’s gameplay is split between two distinct realities:
- Headspace: A whimsical, surreal dream world. Team up with your friends in a traditional, turn-based JRPG. Explore bizarre locations, fight cute (and creepy) enemies, and live out a colorful adventure.
- The Real World: As Sunny, you can choose to leave your room in the real world. Explore your quiet hometown, reconnect with your old friends who have grown and changed, and piece together the tragic truth of what happened years ago.
A Unique “Emotion” Combat System
Combat in OMORI is turn-based, but with a unique psychological twist. Emotions (Happy, Sad, and Angry) act as a rock-paper-scissors system that affects both your party and your enemies:
- Happy beats Angry
- Angry beats Sad
- Sad beats Happy Use your friends’ skills to manipulate emotions, gain a tactical advantage, and unleash powerful follow-up attacks as a team.
A Story That Stays With You
This is not just a game about fighting monsters; it’s a deeply personal and emotional journey. OMORI deals with heavy themes of depression, anxiety, grief, and the struggle of confronting a traumatic past. Your choices will determine your fate and the fate of your friends, leading to one of several powerful endings.
Mature Content Warning: This game contains depictions of depression, anxiety, and suicide, and may not be suitable for all audiences.
